With Canevari

I met Paolo Canevari during the second half of the 1980s and we started working together soon after. Let me explain: the works and ideas were by Paolo, which I photographed in my own manner, overseen by Paolo. We had a pact, which stated that they were his works, with a part stemming from me. Every now and then there was a follow-up to the work, as in the case of the Trabant, which started with the photograph of Paolo’s work, followed by a photo of Valerio Magrelli in front of the work. That day, while we were alone at the MACRO, a door opened and Michelangelo Antonioni slowly came in, bent over his stick. He stopped near us for a few minutes, and the atmosphere was surreal and magical, before bidding us goodbye and going on his way. Nobody said a word during those endless minutes.
That work became a six-handed print: Paolo’s rubber sheet over the Trabant, my photograph and Valerio’s poem about the Trabant.
