The dancing Satyr

The photographs of the Dancing Satyr were taken during its restoration at the Istituto Centrale del Restauro.
They are totally abstract images that decontextualise the sculpture and make it appear as though it is floating on a black ground. They thus restore the evocative power of the drunken satyr, swept away by the dizzy rhythm of a dance that subverts all the rules of balance and naturalness. The subject is a rare example of a bronze statue, probably Greek dating from the late classical period.
