Uomini terra e mare

The recent transfer of the Centro Agroalimentare Roma from the site of the old general markets in Via Ostiense to the new building in Guidonia documents an important part of Rome’s history.
This is not the dazzling Rome of monuments and sunsets, but a Rome depicted through the humanity that enlivens its large markets every day, handing down its trade through the generations, welcoming South Americans, Arabs and Africans, and changing while retaining the power of its age-old history. It is made up of people, trades, labour, the art of being and the pride of realising that one is – in some way – a piece of history of a great city.
