As I enter Giosetta Fioroni’s studio I see Marco Delogu, his back to me, his camera lens turned to focus on a figure concealed by a black burka set against the background of “The Old Curiosity Shop”.
Marco Delogu, as I found him at that moment, his back turned and absorbed in the scene before him, reminded me of a silver drawing by Giosetta Fioroni, dated 1961, taken from a photograph of three children looking out to the horizon. I associate a sense of wonder with that image. I do think that those who make portraits have a special inclination for marvel. The elements of “Senex. Portrait of an Artist” are laid out in such a way that the installation recalls a road, the idea of a path. There is the three-D effigy of Giosetta Fioroni holding the hand of her own self at nine year of age, a completely white statue, of a metaphisical essence, set along an avenue cadenced by Marco Delogu’s light boxes. Twenty-three photographs, some in color, some in black and white, in which the photographer has followed the artist in a series of disguises, integrated into her paintings or set in the context of natural landscapes.
