Cardinals and Criminals are complete opposites. Each represent societal extremes: Good and Evil. However, through Delogu's lens, these opposites manifest a collision of ethos and pathos. Delogu sees each person as an inhabitant within a web of imposed and self-imposed rules and regulations that are indecipherable to those who do not know their experience. Beyond the rules are men and women just trying to survive.
This is Marco Delogu's first North American Solo exhibition.
Noir et Blanc
15th October - 9th December 2008, Villa Medici was staging an important retrospective exhibition of Marco Delogu, Noir et Blanc. The title of the exhibition sums up a work essencially focused on portrait, that finds its leit-motiv in projects centered in groups of people, and that draw on a direct involvement with his life: from cardinals to roman statues, from gipsies to horse-jockeys, from prison to farmers and sheperds.
ex death row inmates
On 18 December, the United Nations´ General Assembly approved the resolution for a moratorium to abolish the death penalty. Marco Delogu met Shuja Graham, one of the twenty "dead men" acknowledged as innocent and released, last year, on 30 November, world day against the death penalty eve, the greatest international mobilization so far, born thanks to an initiative of the Community of Sant´Egidio.
